Chapter 46 in Elgar Encyclopedia of International Sanctions, 2025, pp 159-160 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) first adopted sanctions targeting specific individuals and entities in Yemen in February 2014, when an asset freeze and a travel ban were authorized to support the political transition after the ouster of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. As the Houthi armed group seized power and the country descended into war, the list of targets was extended and a targeted arms import embargo was added. As of 2025, United Nations (UN) sanctions remain in place on ten individuals and one entity.
