Bryan Routledge and Sevin Yeltekin

Chapter 12 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and DLT, 2026, pp 60-64 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Crypto assets and crypto derivatives have transformed global finance by introducing innovative methods of value transfer, storage, and creation. With this chapter, we explore key developments in cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokenization, and derivatives such as futures and perpetual contracts. We provide an overview of market dynamics, regulatory challenges, and the increasing role of institutional adoption. We also highlight the future potential of crypto assets while emphasizing the necessity of regulatory clarity and risk management.
