Ethereum Name Service

Chapter 20 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and DLT, 2026, pp 105-107 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a decentralized application that replaces Ethereum addresses with human-readable names, similar to the domain names widely used on the internet. ENS significantly improves the overall user experience and is beginning to integrate with the established domain name service, providing some identity features beyond cryptocurrency addresses. However, ENS struggles with adoption by other players in the ecosystem.
