Chapter 22 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and DLT, 2026, pp 114-117 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Initial NFT offerings (INOs) are a fundraising mechanism in the digital economy, where creators issue non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to raise capital for projects. INOs, akin to Initial coin offerings (ICOs), enable the monetization of digital assets while offering investors unique opportunities to engage in creative endeavors. The process leverages blockchain technology to ensure transparency and security, employing smart contracts to automate transactions. INOs have gained traction as a transformative tool for building communities, fostering innovation, and navigating the evolving landscape of NFTs. However, challenges such as legal complexities, environmental concerns, and market volatility remain critical considerations.
