Abstract:
Maximally extractable value (MEV) has emerged as a critical concept in the context of decentralized finance (DeFi) on public blockchains. By identifying and extracting financial profits through strategic manipulation of the order of transactions within a block, a small number of agents are extracting billions of dollars annually from naive users. MEV raises concerns about the potential manipulation of markets and exploitation, some claim that it may be among the largest threats to the success of DeFi.
