Abstract:
Concepts such as staking and proof of stake (PoS) have been revolutionary in blockchain, offering significant advancements in energy efficiency and scalability compared with the traditional proof of work (PoW) systems. Besides defining such mechanisms, we explore how PoS addresses the environmental challenges of PoW. Moreover, staking innovations such as staking pools, staking-as-a-service platforms, delegated proof of stake, and liquid staking are examined for their roles in enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and liquidity within PoS networks. We conclude by discussing the challenges of centralization and the future of staking, including cross-chain staking and its integration with decentralized finance.
