Chapter 8 in Culture Based Development, 2025, pp 166-185 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
CBD defines altruism as the break-even (zero-profit) behaviour related to the willingness to move to a different point on the same indifference curve between two individually consumed goods in order for another person to benefit more. This is the behaviour that allows for the contract curve in the Edgeworth box to appear as a collection of Pareto optimal choices for two agents. If , this curve dissolves, and any cooperation becomes impossible between insiders and outsiders.
