Cultural capital

Chapter 2 in Culture Based Development, 2025, pp 35-56 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Cultural capital is the power of culture to impact choice. It is by structure a complex entity built by all the attitudes that shape the local order of preferences in a place, otherwise known as the “permissible set” in choice. There are types of cultural capital: cultural heritage (exogenous) and living culture (endogenous) – defined by time of emergence in comparison to the reference time. The difference between cultural capital and social capital concludes this chapter.
