Cultural entropy

Chapter 4 in Culture Based Development, 2025, pp 76-96 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Cultural entropy is an original CBD-coined notion. It corresponds to the balance between cultural heritage (CH) and living culture (LC). It allows us to measure the degree of uncertainty that the sticky local insider identity type dominates over the adaptive outsider identity type. Cultural entropy is the highest when CH:LC is 50:50 in the stock of local cultural capital. The departure of cultural entropy from its maximum state predicts the taste for discrimination between the insider and outsider group.
