Abstract:
This chapter examines the economics of financial markets and institutions in facilitating the flow of funds. It provides the theoretical frameworks for understanding financial markets, financial institutions and financial instruments. The chapter provides an overview of the financial system. It discusses money, financial instruments, financial markets, financial institutions and financial regulation. It touches on the money markets, stock markets, bond markets, foreign exchange markets, derivatives markets, and international financial markets and the implications of the development of these markets for businesses, individuals, and policymakers. It also discusses the roles of financial markets and institutions.
