The sport coaching researcher: one actor in a complex world

Pierre Trudel and Bettina Callary

Chapter 25 in Handbook of Sport Coaching Research, 2026, pp 298-309 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter provides a macro perspective of contributions of sport coaching researchers in both academic and practical fields. Drs. Pierre Trudel and Bettina Callary address three questions: 1) Is sport coaching research of optimal quantity and quality? 2) Who can contribute to bridging the gap between sport coaching research and practice? 3) What contribution can sport coaching researchers have in a complex world? Outlining the recent experiences of Pierre's work with sport federations, they take a critical look at the evolution of sport coaching research in a constantly changing world.
