Abstract: If you are currently undertaking a doctoral degree or have recently graduated and are looking to secure an academic position that includes doing research, or if you are in an academic position and trying to get on to a research career path, this chapter is for you. Also, supervisors of doctoral candidates might find this chapter useful for guiding their supervisees. In this chapter you will learn that not all universities prioritize research and not all academic positions involve research.
