This chapter provides a non-technical introduction to game theory as it is applied to the field of strategic management. The chapter describes non-cooperative and cooperative game theory. Game theory's strengths and weaknesses for strategy research, its relationship to other theories in strategic management, and its importance to the field are also covered. Throughout, the discussion introduces readers to a wide selection of game theory papers in strategic management.
