Inclusive and responsible financing and investment of business ventures

Chapter 6 in Inclusive and Responsible Entrepreneurship in a Turbulent Era, 2025, pp 52-65 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Amid global crises that reveal gaps in traditional finance, inclusive and responsible financing tools and instruments are emerging as pathways to resilient and sustainable growth. This chapter examines how tools like microfinance, social impact bonds (SIBs), socially responsible investment (SRI) and green bonds are transforming access to capital, particularly for marginalized groups. By incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria, SRI funds and impact investments align financial goals with positive social outcomes, supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring long-term sustainability alongside financial returns. Public–private partnerships (PPPs) amplify these efforts, particularly in emerging markets, by uniting resources to support inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems. Hence, the chapter discusses how responsible investment practices, driven by factors like reputation and civil society pressure, are shaping a new era of sustainable finance that benefits both businesses and communities.
