Made to last: founding, growing and maintaining inclusive and responsible entrepreneurial ventures
Jacques Yana Mbena
Chapter 8 in Inclusive and Responsible Entrepreneurship in a Turbulent Era, 2025, pp 70-83 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter investigates the interconnections between resilience, experience and strategic planning, which are essential for building business ventures and navigating an ever-dynamic and turbulent entrepreneurial environment. The chapter utilizes three key areas to develop a framework supporting the construction and maintenance of successful inclusive and responsible entrepreneurial business ventures. First, it questions whether resilience nurtures the emergence of entrepreneurial behaviour. A few examples of entrepreneurs are presented to illustrate the concepts and support the assumption that resilience dynamics pave the way for nascent entrepreneurship. Second, the critical roles that knowledge transfer, skills and experience play in decision-making are analysed. Finally, the concept of succession planning is debated. In that regard, the chapter primarily details the foundations, objectives, benefits and challenges that succession planning plays in ensuring the sustainability and growth of inclusive and responsible businesses.
