Chapter 1 in A Research Agenda for Innovation and Development, 2026, pp 1-18 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The aims of this book on innovation and development are described. Contributions are presented in fifteen chapters following this introductory chapter. They are organized in five parts: (i) Innovation and Development: Points of Departure; (ii) Innovation for Development and the Making of its Working Agenda; (iii) National Innovation Policies aimed at Development: Issues and Examples; (iv) Universities: Key Institutions for Developmental Innovations; (v) Situating Innovation and Development in the Present World and Looking into the Future. Each chapter is summarized, highlighting research questions and suggestions for future research. A rich and diversified panorama emerges that trespasses disciplinary boundaries, specialties, and geographic locations. A unified approach is attempted in the concluding chapter. The main message is that new proposals are urgently needed to cope with the problems and challenges that are analyzed in the book.
