Abstract: In the coming decades, climate change will be an important factor in agricultural production. This challenge will be especially difficult to harness because global food demand will expand as it is driven by world population growth and income. Spain, one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in Europe, is expected to experience substantial changes in temperature and precipitation patterns and increasing extreme natural events due to climate change. In this chapter, we explore the growing challenges posed by climate change on Spanish agriculture, the impacts on water resources and natural ecosystems, and how policies and institutional frameworks could help in adapting to and mitigating future negative effects. The vulnerabilities and responses in Spain are compared with other countries facing similar climate challenges.
