Chapter 6 in Understanding Advanced Decision Making, 2025, pp 136-166 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter investigates the intricacies of decision analysis and negotiations within the context of complex and uncertain scenarios. Exploring methodologies such as multi-attribute analysis, objective criteria, and sensitivity analysis, and dissecting negotiation techniques from preparation to communication, we draw insights from real-world case studies like the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Agreement. Our examination extends to the implications for both theory and practice, providing a comprehensive framework for understanding and applying these concepts. While acknowledging the chapter's limitations, including the omission of ethical and psychological dimensions, we propose avenues for future research and practice. These encompass exploring ethical, social, and environmental implications, understanding psychological and emotional facets, and developing innovative methods and technologies to enhance decision-making processes. In conclusion, this chapter serves as a foundational guide, offering valuable insights for decision makers and researchers while charting paths for future advancements in decision analysis and negotiation strategies.
