Regenerative economics and hospitality
Alessandro Inversini
Chapter 1 in Regenerative Hospitality, 2026, pp 2-23 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Current sustainability practices in the hospitality industry are failing to address the contemporary natural and social challenges the Anthropocene is exacerbating. A new approach grounded in systemic thinking is needed to address the constant overshooting of planetary boundaries. The regenerative approach offers to the hospitality industry an alternative lens to consider responsibility, surpassing checklist-based sustainability practices while harmonizing human activities with natural ecosystems; this approach will result in systems that are not only sustainable but also capable of self-renewal and growth.
