Digital technology in regeneration

Alessandro Inversini

Chapter 9 in Regenerative Hospitality, 2026, pp 135-145 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Digital technologies are essential for day-to-day operations in travel and tourism; however, applying western-centric thinking to digital technology in regeneration might backfire. Regenerative leaders live in their local contexts and contribute to their local ecosystems: a conceptualization of a digital multi-sided smart platform for regeneration should move on from the concept of ‘appropriate technologies’; i.e. technologies that can drive value in a specific context. Ultimately, the goal of this smart platform should be to support the design of experiences mapped on natural and social ecosystems that foster the role of hospitality firms for place making.
