Article 52: Beneficial ownership through ownership interest

Georgios Pavlidis

Chapter 132 in The EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive and Regulation, 2026, pp 671-675 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter comments on Article 52 of the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (EU) 2024/1624, which defines beneficial ownership (BO) determination via ownership interests and allows delegated acts to adjust thresholds by sectoral risk. It clarifies aggregation rules, indirect holdings, and special forms (e.g., partnerships), and recommends governance controls to detect threshold circumvention.
