Southern disability studies in times of crises: an intersectional and decolonial approach to disability justice

Abstract: In this chapter, I engage with Akemi Nishida's (2018) critical disability praxis and call on disability scholars to think and act with marginalized communities in the Global South in times of global crises. I posit that intersectional and decolonial disability justice, as a form of praxis that emerges from and across the Global South, offers critical potential for resisting dominant power dynamics through epistemic and socio-political struggles. I suggest that decolonial disability justice can offer us a means not only to resist the ableist world but also to collectively re-imagine more just and liberatory disability futures.
