Abstract:
This study explores the alignment of the Latin American mining industry with the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing specifically on SDG 13, which targets climate change mitigation. The mining sector has a substantial environmental footprint while, at the same time, playing a critical role in regional economic development. Thus, assessing how well it integrates sustainable practices is essential for fostering environmental and financial resilience. Despite increasing global attention to sustainable practices, understanding their implementation in the Latin American context remains limited. This research utilizes a quantitative approach, analyzing data from leading international mining firms to assess their environmental and financial impacts in the region. The results indicate a strong correlation, between adopting sustainable practices and improved economic performance, highlighting the potential benefits of integrating environmental responsibility within the mining industry for long-term viability and growth, especially in the realm of international business.
