Embedding Maqasid al-Shariah in halal tourism: collaborative roles of key stakeholders

Abstract: Halal tourism, rooted in Islamic principles, offers a distinctive approach to travel that aligns with the spiritual, ethical, and practical dimensions of Maqasid al-Shariah (the objectives of Islamic law). Maqasid al-Shariah emphasizes five key points: the preservation of faith, life, intellect, family, and wealth. These serve as guiding principles for developing sustainable halal tourism frameworks, where collaborations among stakeholders are significant. This study examines the integration of halal tourism practices with Maqasid al-Shariah, alongside the roles played by tourism stakeholders to create sustainable halal tourism underpinned by Maqasid al-Shariah. Additionally, it critically analyzes both the challenges and opportunities in aligning tourism practices with Maqasid al-Shariah. These insights aim not only to enhance the spiritual and ethical dimensions of travel but also to foster inclusive growth and intercultural understanding while upholding the foundational values of Islam within the tourism sector.
