Policy interventions to build supply chain resilience
Sam Mulopulos ()
Chapter 3 in Achieving Supply Chain Resilience, 2025, pp 80-100 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter discusses the three types of policy interventions governments can adopt to mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities and build resilience. Transparency interventions, like supply chain reviews and information sharing policies, enhance the flow of information in the market which improves the agility of firms and governments. Diversification interventions, like trade agreements, spread risk widely, improving redundancy within the supply chain. Capacity interventions, like trade restrictions, regulatory changes, or subsidies, aim to increase the amount of productive capacity within a supply chain to improve redundancy and sovereignty by reducing reliance on foreign sources.
