Abstract:
This chapter develops a multi-level organisational model for enhancing renewable energy communities (RECs) in Colombia. Drawing on System Good Analysis and ethnographic research, the chapter proposes a bottom-up approach to promote sustainable RECs, with an organisational model to assist. Through a synthesis of literature and stakeholder interviews, five key variables are identified: a strong social fabric that fosters trust, clear motivation aligned with community goals, community initiative and skills for technical and financial empowerment, system formalisation that enhances accountability and efficiency, and a robust business model that ensures financial stability. Achieving sustainability in RECs requires a careful balance between human well-being, social equity, and technical-economic factors. These lessons provide a model for policymakers and communities to advance Colombia's energy transition by positioning bottom-up RECs as an integral part of a resilient and inclusive energy landscape.
