Conclusions
Juan Ruiz Ramos ()
Chapter 5 in The Freedom of Movement of Asylum Seekers within the State, 2025, pp 204-212 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The conclusions summarise the most relevant findings of the book and link them to its three key objectives: the historical origins of freedom of movement within the country in international law, the personal scope of the right and the safeguards of the right, i.e. the conditions that State parties must meet to lawfully restrict this freedom. It then reflects on these findings in light of the two theoretical pillars of the book: multi-sourced equivalent norms and migration exceptionalism. It concludes that, while there are options to use this right as an instrument to challenge restrictive European policies, there is a gap between the different protection standards for asylum seekers and for individuals in general.
