How narratives may shape future research
Nicholas Mangee ()
Chapter 15 in Narrative Analytics and Stock Market Forecasting, 2025, pp 208-215 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This book has presented from different angles the idea that narrative thinking offers benefits when forecasting future stock market performance. Grappling with novel events and the unforeseeable change they cause requires judgment, intuition, psychology, and experience. And the ensuing uncertainty further requires creative thinking about the relevance of today's information and its meaning for the future. The discussions, investigations, and descriptive and empirical evidence presented throughout this book offer support for the forecasting component of NNH. The purpose of the present chapter is two-fold. First, a synopsis of the book's contributions is provided. Emphasis is placed on narrative-based trading scenarios, strategies, and their roles in relevance realization and contextualized meaning. Second, the chapter concludes by projecting the potential role of generative AI in crafting narrative dynamics that could be useful for investment strategies, wealth management, and portfolio allocation in the years ahead.
