Abstract: This chapter examines the role of blockchain technology in the future of video media. Blockchain can provide authentication and provenance for digital files, safeguarding against deepfakes and piracy. It can also enable secure and transparent transactions, including micropayments and royalty payments, through smart contracts. Furthermore, blockchain-based platforms can facilitate decentralized video rights management and digital content distribution. This chapter discusses various applications of blockchain in video media, such as verifying authenticity, protecting copyrights, and improving payment systems. The chapter also explores the potential downsides of blockchain. Yet by leveraging blockchain technology, the video industry can establish a more secure, efficient, and equitable system for content creators and consumers. Overall, blockchain has the potential to improve the way video content is created, distributed, and monetized.
