Chapter 10 in Economic Challenges in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, 2026, pp 219-241 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter presents a qualitative exploration into the pivotal role of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) in driving sustainable economic diversification in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with a particular focus on Qatar. As GCC economies, most relevantly Qatar, endeavor to reduce their historic reliance on hydrocarbon revenues, CCIs offer not just an avenue for economic diversification but also a path towards a more sustainable and resilient future. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive examination of Qatar's innovative efforts in leveraging CCIs to foster a diversified, sustainable economic landscape. It delves into the complex challenges impeding this transition and proposes strategic, sustainable imperatives for overcoming these obstacles.
