Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the findings presented in the book, organized around the time periods presented in the Introduction. The conclusion is that for the most part the central argument holds. It is wise to begin a discussion of global governance by focusing on the role of the great powers in each era, along with understanding their individual priorities and regulations. On the other hand, in the Conclusion I also explore the role of technology, non-state actors, and culture and ideology – including especially racial bias – to show that even the great powers could not control all that happened. In particular, there is considerable evidence that much of global governance is informed by the North-South dichotomy in global affairs, as well as the entrepreneurial energies of multinational corporations and international governmental organizations.
