Introduction to Teaching Health Psychology

Melissa Oxlad and Regan A. R. Gurung

A chapter in Teaching Health Psychology, 2026, pp 1-8 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Health psychology is a diverse and engaging area of psychology, that often interests students, as they can readily see its relevance to their own lives and those of their families and communities. Given this interest and the challenges educators often encounter in teaching health psychology, we have brought together expert contributors from across the globe to share actionable insights on teaching it, in what is, to our knowledge, the first book dedicated to how to teach this important aspect of psychology. In this Introduction, we orient readers to this invaluable teaching resource. We explain the rationale for such a book and describe its four-section structure for readers. We then give readers a taste of what to expect by introducing the expert contributors and describing the content of each chapter. We conclude by briefly reflecting on what we have learned from the contributors and mentioning our hopes for readers.
