Chapter 5 in Concise Introduction to Employee Engagement, 2026, pp 84-105 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter presents an overview of the antecedents and consequences of engagement. The antecedents of employee engagement are organized in terms of resources at the level of the individual, group, leader, and organization that can satisfy the psychological conditions of meaningfulness, safety, and availability. Consequences are presented at the level of the individual, group, and organization. Antecedents of engagement with referents other than the self are also reviewed, along with antecedents and consequences of organization engagement.
