Abstract:
Over the past few years, firms have faced the pressing challenge of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Therefore, the concept of a circular economy has gained traction as an innovative business model that can effectively translate CSR into tangible actions. This chapter provides a definition and evaluation method for CSR examining sustainable development practices (SDP) and strategies used to cultivate a green corporate image (GCI) implemented during the adoption of circular economy practices (CEP) in business operations. This chapter examines competencies ranging from resource efficiency optimization and waste reduction strategies to stakeholder involvement for sustainability, product design for green innovation, and cross-industry collaboration toward closed-loop systems that companies employ throughout this process. By examining CSR, SDP, and GCI within the same analytical framework, this study sheds light on their influence on CEP within firms. In this way, this chapter bridges the gap between academic investigations focused on SDP and those exploring CEP implementation. Consequently, it also offers recommendations for manufacturing firms in emerging markets on the efficient incorporation of CSR through a shift to circular economy models. Policymakers can use these insights for targeted policies that align CSR with circular economy strategies.
