Chapter 14 in How to Build Resilience in College Students, 2026, pp 141-147 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Organizational culture involves the formal and stated rules that govern that system. This can include mission and vision statements along with documents that describe the policies and procedures of an organization. Organizational climate, on the other hand, references how employees experience, and thereby feel about the work environment. Both inform the ways employees work to meet their job duties. As institutions of higher education seek to meet students’ needs by becoming more trauma-informed and strengths-based, we discuss how paying attention to organizational culture and climate can help spread a growth mindset across a college or university. We highlight leadership and the role that parallel process plays in activating resilience across the organization. The importance of formally asserting an organization's commitment to these efforts in an educational ecosystem will also be addressed.
