Abstract: The step-by-step process of writing an academic journal article has become a long journey, as documented through the chapters of this book. Most of those who aspire to publish academic work are graduate students and early career academics attempting to achieve the requirements for landing tenure track university employment. The first section overviews how one's initial research topic will lend itself, for better or worse, to sub-disciplines. In sociology, the most successful areas are criminology and medical sociology. From the initial research, one begins to learn about the guiding concepts of the field, the dominant authors, university programs, methodology, and journals. Details of writing the article are covered in the second part of the book, as a great deal of organization is first laid out in regard to one's reading notes and research data. The third part of the book overviews the submission process, from selecting a journal, receiving a response from the journal, and revising the article accordingly. This book has broken down the process of getting an academic journal article published, from initial concept to revising according to the journal reviews. By following these steps, and repeating as necessary, the reader can ensure that they will become a published scholar.
