A conceptual mapping on intellectual property law and sustainability

Abstract: The intellectual property (IP) legal scholarship is notably permeated by the evolving societal contexts in which the discipline applies. The momentum gathered around the notion of sustainability in international, regional, and national policymaking is an important part of today's world and is already significantly affecting the IP doctrine. The chapter aims to capture a first broad-brush picture of how IP law and sustainability are being understood, studied, and interpreted alongside each other. Through a conceptual mapping of selected relevant literature, the analysis identifies patterns of recurring terminology and main themes, which are shaping this specific legal discourse and might serve as key enablers in the ongoing evolution of IP legal theory and practice.
