Abstract: Zhiyuan Liu is a professor and doctoral advisor at Southeast University in China, where he currently serves as Director of the Center for Complex Transportation Networks. In this chapter, Zhiyuan responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Zhiyuan reflects on treating research as a life-long learning process, the importance of a team approach, and engaging with industry on research.
