Abstract: Karen Lucas is Professor of Human Geography and Director of the Manchester Urban Institute at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. In this chapter, Karen responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Karen reflects on the benefits of collaborating with other researchers, challenges for early-career researchers on short term contracts, and the need for qualitative approaches in transport research.
