Abstract: Kay Axhausen is Emeritus Professor of Transport Planning in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zürich in Switzerland. In this chapter, Kay responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Kay reflects on his involvement with MATSim (Multi-Agent Transport Simulation), supervision of PhD students, and his role as Editor-in-Chief of Transportation.
