Abstract:
Professor Narelle Haworth holds a Chair position at the Motor Accident Insurance Commission - Queensland University of Technology Road Safety Collaboration in Australia and has 30 years’ experience in road safety research. In this chapter, Narelle responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Narelle reflects on the importance of research funding and industry links, past struggles with job security, and the need to communicate research findings outside of academia.
