Chapter 8 in Constructive Intercultural Management, 2026, pp 135-154 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, we study how organizations transfer management practices interculturally. We present concepts and models of intercultural transfer, and explain how multinational companies can coordinate knowledge transfer processes between headquarters and subsidiaries. Moreover, we address the challenges linked to the intercultural transfer of management tools and practices. We define the concepts of contextualization, decontextualization and recontextualization, and emphasize the facilitating role recontextualization plays for the constructive transfer of management practices between home and host organizations. We also elaborate a set of practical recommendations of how to manage intercultural transfer processes successfully.
