Conclusion to Mid-sized Cities and Regions in Global Competition
Peter Karl Kresl
A chapter in Mid-sized Cities and Regions in Global Competition, 2026, pp 145-148 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
I have assembled a collection of the experiences and strategic approaches taken by mid-sized cities in meeting the challenges to their competitiveness and their standing among cities in their size class. Their imagination has taken them from designing a new architectural style, as in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, to opting to become a “shrinking city” as Youngstown emulated the similar cities of East Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
