Abstract: Abstract: While the 1950s and 1960s were the years when American methods and research-based management training programs were discovered in France, the fields of organisational studies, administration, and management benefited from the contribution of several other new disciplines: the sociology of work, the psycho-sociology of organisations, institutional analysis, the sociology of organisations and businesses, heterodox economics, and new administrative sciences, whose roots sometimes go back to earlier periods. This chapter presents the emergence of the sociology of work, as the parent discipline in the mid-1950s, particularly under the influence of Georges Friedmann, its founder, which would become one of the main sources of organisational studies in the French-speaking world. It also gives a synthesis of the diversity of the new disciplines and topics studied by the French-speaking researchers during this period.
