The originality of the French-speaking field

Abstract: The field of research in French-language organisational studies, administration and management appears to be a social field in its own right, in Bourdieu's sense. Among the distinctions that can be made in this regard, several appear: first, the centrality given to political processes; second, the importance given to meaning, to the significance of human actions and linguistic activities; third, the attention paid to mechanisms, tools and management instruments in specific situations; and finally, the role played by macro-social aspects and history in the interpretation of the phenomena observed. The French-speaking researchers, by focusing on studying human dynamics from the perspective of actors, experience and lived experience in situ, have, for the most part, used qualitative methods and prioritised field research. As a distinct field, its historical influence within the field of international research, and beyond the French-speaking world itself, varies according to historical periods and linguistic and cultural contexts.
