Contemporary challenges in French-language administrative sciences

Abstract: Today, researchers in the field of French-language administrative sciences face several challenges related to the tensions that exist within the field: a tension between the global and the local, a tension between the imposition of English monolingualism and a multilingual reality, a tension between the social relevance of the research carried out and the academicism of “pure” research and, finally, a tension between a multidisciplinary and a monodisciplinary vision; these tensions are also part of the current socio-historical context, in which issues related to multiple socio-economic divides and those related to the Anthropocene have become acute and even vital for the survival of humanity itself. French-language researchers should be inspired to continue preserving what needs to be preserved in their field: knowledge of their intellectual traditions, their language, the subjects of study specific to their characteristics, their relationship with the field, their publishing mechanisms and their scientific associations, while of course maintaining an open dialogue with other linguistic communities.
