Abstract: This chapter traces the evolution of urban resilience from ecological theory to contemporary governance, emphasising adaptation, transformation and learning across environmental, social and institutional spheres. It identifies the main drivers and pressures shaping cities, including climate risks, socio-economic inequalities and infrastructural vulnerabilities. The chapter then outlines strategies for strengthening adaptive capacity through integrated planning, ecosystem management and community involvement. Urban green infrastructure is positioned as a core resilience mechanism that links ecological performance with governance innovation and civic agency. By situating the 3P nexus within the broader resilience paradigm, the chapter establishes the analytical foundations for the empirical case studies.
