Abstract:
This chapter explores the women's liberation movement during the Yan'an period (1937–1948) under the Communist Party of China (CPC). It examines how Marxist theories on gender and class were practically applied to revolutionary activities in rural China. By encouraging women's participation in production and integrating them into social and economic activities, the CPC sought to reform family structures and achieve gender equality. The Large-scale Production Campaign of 1943 and subsequent policy adjustments significantly transformed ethical and familial norms, promoting the establishment of new democratic family models. This effort aimed to balance public and private interests, advancing both women's liberation and broader social transformation. The study demonstrates that revolutionary China could promote women's liberation within the framework of class revolution, particularly benefiting rural women at the grassroots level.
