Abstract:
The crisis in the Lebanese economy, unique in contemporary economic history, is the result of a choice made by the ruling elite. Refusing to rebuild the State after the civil war, it set out to divide the nation in order to reign over it. This economic crisis is political in nature, and the lessons we can learn from it are important for the Arab world, where ‘political capitalism’ is rife.
