Keita Oikawa and Fusanori Iwasaki

Chapter 5 in ASEAN-Japan Economic Partnership for a Sustainable and Resilient Future, pp 195 - 232 from Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)

Abstract: This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current economic cooperation frameworks between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Japan and their way forwards. First, the chapter provides a brief overview of the two ongoing economic cooperation programmes between ASEAN and Japan. Then, it explores the challenges that both face, highlighting steps necessary to achieve a sustainable and resilient future together. The discussion is centred around four key areas: (i) trade and investment, (ii) digital and innovative economy, (iii) sustainable development, and (iv) a professional workforce for the future.
